Welcome Back

First, the good news: no homework for the first night (for social studies, anyway)
Bad news: you should probably go home and study the map of the school, huh? (hint: the pool on the third floor is part of the last phase of the renovation)

I'm really psyched to see some familiar students enrolled in the course. This course is my favorite one to teach and I hope you will learn a lot of interesting and useful things about the world we live in and how it got this way. Get over any shyness, because I expect everyone will participate and we'll have some really interesting (perhaps heated?) discussions. All opinions are welcome as long as they are related to what we're discussing, respectfully delivered and able to be backed up with some sort of evidence.

Hey, just this summer we've seen Israel and Iran threating each other over nuclear weapons, Russia getting into a war with its southern neighbor Georgia, a spectacular Olympics in China, a president forced to resign in Pakistan... all areas we'll be studying in this course. Also, all areas that involve the United States in some way or another. Keep your eyes and ears out for people, places, events around the world that you'd like to learn about and discuss in class.
